About 15 years since the infamous Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty controversy happened, Mumbai Court absolved Shilpa. Hollywood actor Richard Gere kissed the cheeks of the actress creating a stir in the country. Yesterday the court in its order said ,”It seems that the accused Shilpa Shetty is the victim of the alleged act of accused no. 1 (Richard Gere). Not a single element of any of the alleged offence is being satisfied in the complaint,” the court said in the order. Richard Gere Kissing controversy created an uproar in the country. Following increasing number of complaints , police registered cases against both Richard and Shilpa under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act for obscenity.

Following the uproar, both Richard and Shilpa offered apology to his Indian friends for offending them through a public statement. Shilpa’s spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar also commented that it was unfortunate that Richard had to apologize without any of his fault. He added that the ‘Unfaithful’ actor had merely acted a movie scene from his movie ,’ Shall be Dance‘ for the entertainment of truck drivers at an AIDS awareness camp. All in all he said that this was just a random act done in good spirit. Dale also added that the media exaggerated the incidence beyond proportion.
Mumbai Court absolved Shilpa from Kiss Controversy, Case transferred to Mumbai
Upon the orders of Supreme court, case got transferred to Mumbai Court from the court of magistrate first class in Rajasthan on the orders of the Supreme Court in 2017. The Mumbai court in its order stated that news reports attached to the complaint had common intent. One of the allegations against Shilpa is that she did not protest when she was kissed by the co-accused Gere. “This by no stretch of imagination makes her a conspirator or perpetrator of any crime,” the order said
