Commonwealth Games 2022 Highlights: Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Bindyarani Sorokhaibam Shine On Day 2

Mirabai Chanu won Gold for India at Commonwealth Games 2022. She won the Gold in the 49Kg event with a new CWG record 201 kg.

Mirabai Chanu has delivered on the promise and won the first gold medal for India at #CommonwealthGames2022. Chanu lifted a total of 201 kg to win the yellow metal in women’s 49kg weightlifting event, which was India’s third medal of the day from the sport after Sanket Sargar (silver) and Gururaja (bronze) delivered earlier in the day. Chanu, who had won the gold medal at the 2018 CWG in Gold Coast in Australia, was miles ahead of the competition as she picked up 88kg in snatch and 113 kg in clean and jerk.

Setting CWG record in the First Attempt, Mirabai Chanu won Gold for India

Olympic Silver Medalist was at her best as delivered her best in the snatch round. She set a new Commonwealth record lifting 105 Kg. India’s ace weightlifter did not stop there as she lifted 113Kg successfully in the next attempt. However she failed at the third attempt when she tried her hand at 119kg. It was #MirabaiChanu second gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. There was hardly any competition as she sailed through the competition with a gap of more than 29kg in the silver medalist lift. Mauritius’ Roilya Ranaivosoa (76kg + 96kg), who won silver. Canada’s Hannah Kaminsky took home the bronze medal, lifting a total of 171kg (74kg + 97kg). Mary Kom posted the news on her social media captioning Superd First Gold and tagged Mirabai.
