Shakira faces trial in Spanish Tax Fraud Case
Stage is all set for Shakira Tax Fraud Trial at the Spanish court. On Thursday the judge dismissed the appeal of the Columbian singer Shakira leading to a trial in the said case. According to the judge there was ample evidence to prove that she has not paid to the state. Shakira’s tax evasion made headlines when the court charged the singer for not paying 14.5 million euros (USD 15.5 million) in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014.So far she has denied any wrongful act while appearing in court in 2019.
Shakira Tax fraud Trial , Court cancels singer appeal
Although the Columbian singer denied any offence and had earlier appeared before the court too. However the source of the dispute according to the court is the singer’s residence under question. Since the actress mostly lived in Spain in spite of having an official Bahamas residence. According to the court the ‘ Hips Don’t Lie ‘ singer’s documentation did not support her residency claims. However according to Shakira’s PR team, she paid the dues once the Spanish Tax Office informed her of the dues.
Singer’s Legal team defends her innocence
The singer’s legal team has confirmed in a statement that it will continue to ‘defend her innocence. According to them Shakira has always maintained faultless financial records and followed best specialists and advisors. In case Shakira is found guilty she faces penalty from fine to imprisonment.
