His fans lovingly called him GOAT (an acronym) for ‘Greatest of all times’. And he has maintained the grace and sportsmanship every time he came on to play. A true global icon, he has a fan base even in India, in spite of the country being cricket frenzy nation. Roger Federer’s Tennis retirement has memories of 20 times Grand Slam Champion. Roger Federer came to India in the year in 2014 for IPTL, the International Premier Tennis League. The visit always had a special place in his heart. Fondly known as GOAT. Roger Federer was a tennis player like no other. Although there were other players that matched him, he shone like gold. Pete Sampras, Novak Djokovic, Pat Rafter, Goran Ivanisevic, Lleyton Hewitt and Marin Cilic, too made strides yet it was Federer who carried the Aura.

The Swiss legend love and fascination for Indian food was visible. He took a picture of relishing Indian Naan. Besides, he played tennis with Bollywood stars like Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar. Additionally, he played a match with Deepika Padukone against Novak Djokovic and Sania Mirza in New Delhi. Roger Federer had jokingly laughed about his age on his 41st Birthday.

Injuries, age and wearing down prompted Roger Federer’s Retirement

The greatest of all times Roger entertained the fans like no other. His mastery of the game accompanied by the spirit to play made him the beloved of fans and rivals both. Sports critics still awe at the length of stay in the game. Ruling the tennis world for more than two decades has been a milestone in its own.

The Legendary eight-time Wimbledon champion was battling a knee injury for the past few seasons and underwent his third knee surgery last year. The 41-year-old has been out of action since a quarter-final loss at Wimbledon in 2021.

In a touching social media post, Federer revealed his decision to retire after the Laver Cup in London.
