Jubilant fans took to streets to celebrate the victory of Argentina in FIFA World Cup Finals 2022. Excited Argentina supporters busted crackers in the streets and distributed sweets.

For a legend like Lionel Messi, it could not have been sweeter than this. Probably, nothing less than a dream come true, he had waited for this triumphant moment. As the captain of an iconic soccer team, who stole the show and defeated the defending champions, France. For a team who last won the sporting event 36 years ago, it was nothing less than a festive occasion.

Kolkata is the hub of Football, and it was visible yesterday. Excited fans took to the streets and burst crackers and made rounds of their localities in their favourite team’s blue and white colours with Argentina’s national flag fluttering from their hands. There were many in tears as Argentina won and the celebrations started. People watched the match in community halls and clubs where large screens were put up, the supporters erupted in ecstasy. Equally delighted were Messi fans, who scored two goals and then another in a shootout as Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties to claim a third World Cup title.

Fans remembered Diego Maradona as Kolkata celebrated Argentina’s victory in the FIFA

Messi is often compared with the legend Maradona who incidentally won the FIFA for Argentina exactly thirty-six years ago. And it just could not be more surreal for the former to replicate the feat of his idol. As many partied, some just wished that Maradona were alive to witness the victory.
