Apple has criticized Meta for 47.5 per cent cut on sales on Meta Quest store

Meta’s news of charging 50% of its sales has not gone well with Apple. Facebook parent company recently announced that it shall charge about half of all the sales and purchases. Apple has criticized Meta and called it Hypocritic. According to one of the Apple’s representatives., “Meta has repeatedly taken aim at Apple for charging developers a 30% commission for in-app purchases in the App Store”. “Meta seeks to charge those same creators significantly more than any other platform.”

Controversy Details

Apple and Meta are at loggerheads with each other. The controversy started when Meta announced that it would be charging approximately 50% commission on all the sales on Metaverse. Also, Meta stated that it shall limit the creator number on its metaverse network to sell virtual items. The commission includes a hardware platform fee of 30% through Meta Quest Store and 17.5 % Horizon worlds.

Developers criticize Meta’s commission news

Developers reacted negatively over Meta’s high rates. Similar marketplaces are known to charge comparatively lesser. While Apple charges its developers 30% cut on all the purchases on Appstore, meta finds the allegations irrelevant. Zuckerberg promised last year to keep the commissions lower than Apple 30%. Consequently the 47.5% news has not gone well with developers.
